Metropolitan Pavel: Belarusian Orthodox Church to postpone self-government
The discussion itself is detrimental, the head of the Belarusian Orthodox Church believes.
Metropolitan Pavel commented on the idea of self-government of the Belarusian Orthodox Church in the programme Contours on ONT. The recent announcement made by Minsk eparchy council attracted a lot of attention.
Only the idea of self-government (not autonomy) was mentioned, the Patriarch said. “The Statute has even more than it is needed for self-government,” the metropolitan added.
The stir has only resulted in harm, the head of the Belarusian Orthodox Church believes. That is why he has decided to remove the question from the agenda. “We will not return to this issue for 25-50 years,” Metropolitan Pavel claimed.
