Pope Francis and Patriarch Kirill to meet on February 12
On February 12 will take place a historic meeting of Pope Francis and Patriarch Kirill of Moscow. It will be held at the airport in Havana, Cuba. This is stated in a joint statement of the Vatican and the Moscow Patriarchate. Until now, the Pope and the head of the Russian Orthodox Church have never met.
BBC notes that the Pope and the Patriarch of Moscow have signed a joint declaration on cooperation of the churches. They will discuss the problem of persecution of Christians in many parts of the world.
It is known that Patriarch Kirill will visit Cuba, and the Pope will stop at the "Island of Freedom" on the way to Mexico.
