Cruelty to animals to become punishable in Belarus today
Cruelty to animals will result in arrest or correctional work and imprisonment for repeated violations.
A new article of the Criminal Code has come into force today. People will now be punished for cruelty to animals. If their actions result in death or mutilation, the culprit may be fined or sent to correctional work.
Repeated violations will result in imprisonment for up to 12 months. The measure is indicated in article 339.1 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Belarus. The innovation was initiated by animal right defenders.
